Field welding and installation

Your crew cannot legally work here. Ours can. Certified welders, a foreman and supervision on site, working to your drawings and your sequence, so nobody travels and nothing waits on a welding test.

Our crew, our supervision, our Washington registration. You keep the contract, the client relationship and the project management, and you send nobody to Washington.

What this covers

  • Structural field welding. Moment connections, beam-to-column, column splices, base plates, and seismic connections run to AWS D1.1 and D1.8 by welders holding current WABO certification, which Washington building officials commonly require and which a qualification from another state does not satisfy.
  • Erection and installation. Moment frames, stair towers, mezzanines, canopies, embeds, and manufactured assemblies set plumb and square against the structural drawings, with dimensions verified on site rather than assumed.
  • Existing structure modification. Openings cut and reframed, open web steel joist reinforcement, beam replacement, and strengthening in occupied buildings, where what is already standing sets the sequence.
  • Special inspection and closeout. Weld maps, third-party special inspection scheduled against the real sequence, nondestructive testing coordinated, and reports chased to a closed status before structural sign-off is requested.
  • Everything Washington asks of a contractor. Registration, bond, the L&I account, industrial insurance, prevailing wage filings on public work, and a WISHA accident prevention program all sit with us, because the crew on site is ours. Your company does not open an account, file an Intent, or write a Washington safety program.

How it works

What you send

  • The drawings and the structural set
  • Delivery dates and the sequence the work has to follow
  • The project location, the general contractor, and the schedule
  • Whether the project is public work

What comes back

  • A scoped, fixed price with crew and compliance included
  • Certified welders, a foreman and supervision on site
  • A closed-out inspection and documentation file
  • One invoice, with the compliance already handled

Pricing

Priced per scope, per project. You tell us the project and the date you need to start, and you get a fixed number back before anything begins. No retainer, and no percentage of your contract value.

The work goes out as yours. We are not named to the owner or the general contractor, we do not contact your customer as ourselves, and we hold no relationship with them.

Common questions

How does an out-of-state contractor perform work in Washington?

Most partner with a Washington contractor rather than mobilising their own crew. Washington requires contractor registration under RCW 18.27 for contracting work in the state, and building officials commonly require WABO certification for structural welding, which a qualification from another state does not satisfy. The out-of-state company keeps the contract and manages the project; a Washington partner fields the crew.

Who performs the work on site?

Gusset Group does, with its own crews and its own supervision, under its own Washington contractor registration. The client fabricates, supplies and manages its own scope from wherever it is based, and does not need a Washington registration to do that.

Why can an out-of-state welder not just fly in?

WABO certification is held by individual welders and is commonly required by Washington building officials for structural welding. A welder qualified to AWS D1.1 in another state is not automatically accepted here, and testing has to be scheduled with an approved agency, so it is one of the main reasons an out-of-state fabricator partners locally for the field portion.
